The objective of forestry is to only produce straight growing, live trees with fine branching. This has led to a high demand for quality.
The first to define and determine quality standards was the “DKV”, an alliance of tree nurseries and forest owner associations who wanted to increse and secure the quality of forest plants.
Since plants are not only used in forestry a whole line of quality assurance bodies have been developed to determine and maintain the quality standards.

These are the alliances of which we are members:

The DKV (Gütegemeinschaft für forstliches Vermehrungsgut e. V.) is a private alliance of reputable companies in the forestry business,  including forest owners and government bodies.

Its primary objective is to ensure the heritage authenticity of the reproductive material, seeds and seedlings in Germany in accordance with “Agenda 21”, approved by the UNCED conference in Rio, 1992.

The objective stated therein was to ensure continually the stability of the forest through the use of high genetic quality reproductive material.

Members of the BdB after they have successfully undergone a quality control process, which they voluntarily subject to, they are entitled to use the certificate “Deutsche Markenbaumschule”.

This regularly reoccurring quality control is undertaken by independent authorized experts.

“Deutsche Markenbaumschule” is thus not only a certification but a quality assurance to the customers that they are buying authentic and healthy planting material.

The certification is limited to members of the BdB who meet certain requirements in both their methodologies and expertise.

A very major part of the testing process is devoted to the production and distribution methods which the business adopts.

The ZüF e. V. was founded in 2002 and has 29 tree nurseries  members from all over Germany amongst which are several government operated nurseries.
Its main objective is to provide forest plants with a verifiable origin.
Especially in forestry, which involves long growing periods, owners have to have  the certainty that the plants they utilize are of verifiable origin to ensure ecologic stability and  the economic success of their forests.
Due to the opening of borders in Europe and around the globe, experts acknowledge the necessity for an organization which oversees the authenticity not only  of forest plants.
In 1999, the predecessor of the ZüF was initiated by the Governmental forestry  administrations of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg and  the “Erzeugergemeinschaft für Qualitätsforstpflanzen Süddeutschland”, an entity devoted to quality standards in German forestry also existed.
